Attendance Policy
In the event of any absence, the student’s parent or guardian is required to call the school at 217/444-3208 before 7:50 a.m. to explain the reason for the absence. If a call has not been made to the school by 9:30 a.m. on the day of a student’s absence, a school official and the Alert Now system will call the home to inquire why the student is not at school. If the parent or guardian cannot be contacted, the student will be required to submit a signed note from the parent or guardian explaining the reason for the absence. 

Once a student has reached a total of six (6) absences (excused by parent and unexcused), any additional absences will require official documentation explaining the reason for the student’s absence.

Illinois law requires that whoever has custody or control of any child between six (6) and seventeen (17) years of age (unless the child has already graduated from high school) shall assure that the child attends school in the 6 district in which he or she resides, during the entire time school is in session. Illinois law also requires that whoever has custody or control of a child who is enrolled in the school, regardless of the child’s age, shall assure that the child attends school during the entire time school is in session.

Erin's Law 
Erin’s Law is named after childhood sexual assault survivor, author, speaker and activist Erin Merryn. Erin’s Law (in Illinois, Public Act 96-1524) mandates that Illinois public schools provide training to certified staff on prevention of child sexual abuse. It also mandates that public school children pre-kindergarten through 12th grade be educated on how to protect themselves from sexual abuse. Students learn age-appropriate techniques to recognize child sexual abuse and tell a trusted adult. School personnel learn about child sexual abuse. Any questions or concerns can be addressed by building administrators, guidance counselors or school social workers. 
 
School Report Card 
The school report cards for each school and the school district have been released by the State. In January, 2013, the Illinois State Board of Education raised the performance level cut scores for the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) for mathematics and reading in grades 3-8. The performance level cut scores were raised to support more rigorous curricula and instructional approaches that meet Common Core State Standards that better equip our students with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively pursue higher education or successfully enter the work force. Due to these higher expectations on the reading and mathematics ISAT assessments, there was a significant decrease statewide in the percentage of students meeting and exceeding standards at the elementary and middle school grades. The change in performance in grades 3-8 does not mean our students know less or are less capable than they were in previous grades. This decline also is not a reflection on teacher performance. Instead, the Illinois State Board of Education is raising the bar on what students must achieve in order to be ready for success in college and careers.

The Illinois State Board of Education has prepared a traditional report card, as well as a user-friendly and easy to read report card summary for each school, the Illinois Report Card at a Glance. The new Report Card at a Glance includes summarized information, details on school programs and awards, as well as a link to data from the 5Essentials survey about the district’s learning conditions.
